Can yoga help in hair loss?

Yes. A big yes. Yoga can help in hair loss by stimulating blood circulation in the scalp. Yoga reduces hair fall. Yoga definitely helps to prevent hair loss. Nowadays, hair fall is a big problem. Either it is an effect of our lifestyle, or stress all around, or the unhealthy food we consume, all of it construct to hair problems.

Pose 1: Adho mukha svanasana – Downward facing dog pose

Pose 2: Uttanasana- Forward bending camel pose

Pose 3: Ustrasana – Back bending camel pose

Pose 5: Sasangasana-Rabbit pose

Pose 6: Balasana – Child’s pose

Now, move to its benefits and how to do it, one by one as:

Pose 1: Adho mukha svanasana – Downward facing dog pose

Adho mukha svanasana or downward-facing dog pose is the best yoga for reversing hair loss and promote to hair growth. It helps to encourage blood flow to the scalp and proves to be very relaxing. Here are the instructions to do it :

Step 1: Stand on the yoga mat, keep the legs a hip-width apart.

Step 2: Go down with your hands, shift to balance on your hands, and feet. Your hands shoulder-width apart and spread your fingers wide.

NOTE: Your body should make an upside-down V.

Step 3: Increase the stretch of your spine. Tilt your pelvis inward to feel a further stretch in your hamstrings (thigh muscles in between the hip and the knee).

Step 4: Hold this position for 30 seconds and release.

Step 5: Then proceed to the next pose with a long breathe.

Pose 2: Uttanasana- Forward bending camel pose

Uttanasana or forward bending camel pose helps to stretch the legs, back, thigh, neck, and knee which helps to encourage the blood flow towards the scalp. Here are the instructions to do it :

Step 1: Stand on the yoga mat, keep the legs a hip-width apart, and arms at your sides.

Step 2: Bend forward towards your legs while hips and legs should be straight and touch the floor.

NOTE: Your fingertips touch your knees, toes, or floor, depending on your flexibility while moving down. You can keep the knees slightly bent if needed.

Step 3: Relax your head and feel it in the hang position. Feel the stretch in different parts of the body like legs and back.

Step 4: Hold this position for 30 seconds and raise your head and back to step1 posture.

Step 5: Then proceed to the next pose with a long breathe.

Pose 3: Ustrasana – Back bending camel pose

Ustrasana or back bending camel pose has many benefits like posture correction, back strength, and improved digestion. It is also best for hair by stimulating the nerves of the scalp and increasing blood flow in the head which makes your hair strong and helps to control excessive hair fall. Here are the instructions to do it :

Step 1: Sit on the yoga mat with knees and hips is on the feet and keep your knees slightly apart.

Step 2: raise your chest towards the ceiling and touch the sole of your foot with your hands.

Step 3: Look back wall and keep your chest lifted up.

Step 4: Hold this position for 30 seconds then relax.

Step 5: Then proceed to the next pose with a long breathe.

Pose 4: Matsyasana -Fish pose

Matsyasana or fish pose is an easy yoga posture that can be performed without any equipment. Fish pose is strongly recommended for strong and healthy hair as it can relieve you from most hair problems. The regular practice of this, can lead to hair growth and solve all hair problems. Here we go with instructions to do it :

Step 1: Ley on the yoga mat with your back and keep your body straight.

Step 2: Place your hands next to your hips with your palms facing down. Toes stretch towards inward. 

Step 3: Slowly, raise up your chest engage with the core, and stretch it as much as you can. Arch the neck and eyes should close.

Step 4: Hold the position for 20-30 seconds and relax.

Step 5: Then proceed to the next pose with a long breathe.

Pose 5: Sasangasana-Rabbit pose

Sasangasana or rabbit pose is helpful to stress relief. Also, increase the blood flow towards the scalp without moving upside-down body. Here are the instructions to do it:

Step 1: Sit on the yoga mat with knees and hips is on the feet.

Step 2: Head should be touching the knees on the mat (as shown in the picture), and the hands touch the feet.

Step 3: Now, start moving your body with your hips up and down.

NOTE: Creating a massage-like effect on the scalp.

Step 4: Repeat this motion for 5times then relax.

Step 5: Then proceed to the next pose with a long breathe.

Pose 6: Balasana – Child’s pose

Balasana or child’s pose is a very basic yoga pose that has huge benefits if do it correctly. The child’s pose is a restful and stress-relieving pose, that can perform anywhere, even on your bed. Here are the steps to do it :

Step 1: Sit on the yoga mat with knees and hips is on the feet.

Step 2: Move forward towards the mat hands should be straight and your head touch the mat. 

Step 3: Fingers should be spread on the mat and hips should be on the feet.

Step 4: Hold this position 30 seconds – as long as you. 

Step 5: Back to step1. Then proceed to the next pose with a long breathe.

Pose 7: Vajrasana – Reduce stress

Vajrasana or reduce stress as the name it helps to reduce the stress. Stress is the basic reason to lead the hair problems like grey hair and hair loss. It increases blood circulation in the scalp and strengthens hair. Performing it regularly gave you incredible changes. Here are the basic steps to do it :

Step 1: Sit on the yoga mat with knees and hips is on the feet.

Step 2: Back, neck, head, and shoulder should be straight. Toe-thumb should touch each other.

Step 3: Keep your hands in a relaxed position on your thighs with palms down and look straight.

Step 4: Hold this position 30 seconds – as long as you with long breaths and relax your body. 

Step 5: Release. Then proceed to the next pose.

Pose 8: Balayam yoga -Rubbing nails

Balayam yoga or rubbing nails is a very simple and effective yogasana that helps in hair growth. It can be done by sitting anywhere even at your workplace too. Nail rubbing is an alternative reflexology therapy for hair growth. It increases blood circulation to the scalp, strengthening hair follicles and leading to hair growth, and helps in premature graying of hair. So, practice it every day whenever you are free. Here are the basic follow-ups to do it :

Step 1: Sit on the yoga mat or wherever you want.

Step 2: Curl your fingers of both hands facing nails of each other.

Step 3: Avoid the thumbnail by folding it towards the palm.

Step 4: Start rubbing the nails vigorously as long as you want. 

Step 5: Release. Do this yogasana for 10-15 minutes every day for a good result.
